Writing on Writing

I have always loved writing. Dreams of being a “writer” in some capacity have lingered in my mind and heart for as long as I can remember. While photography and entrepreneurship have certainly played the prominent role in my life, writing has still found ways to show up and play.

Helping friends or colleagues wordsmith that thing they’re trying to communicate for a website or a client email, journaling, writing my prayers, working up the nerve to write a social post or a blog...in these ways writing finds a way out of me, and in those moments I feel as though I’ve just run into an old friend at the grocery store. Surprised, delighted, and left thinking “goodness, I really ought to call her more often like I always mean to!”. As much as I always want to be better at calling, I get busy.

Perhaps remaining open to those serendipitous and joyful meetings is how a thing shows up enough that it finally just...sticks around. Perhaps “new”, rather than always being very demonstrably decided, can simply be allowed and welcomed in - gently and continually- until one day you’re pondering with your dear friend how strange it seems that there was ever a time you were apart.
